Your SkyPro Internet equipment explained
What the box on the roof, the small adapter and the router each do – and which ones you should never touch.
SkyPro Internet brings internet to your home by radio, not by a cable in the ground. This is called fixed wireless. Knowing your equipment helps you describe problems quickly when you contact us.
How the internet reaches you
- Base station. Our radios on a tower or tall building serve your area.
- Wireless link. The base station and your outdoor radio talk through the air. They need a clear view of each other.
- Outdoor radio. A small box on your roof, wall or pole, pointed at the base station.
- PoE adapter. A small box indoors, plugged into a wall socket. It sends power up the cable to the outdoor radio.
- Router. Makes the Wi-Fi in your home and connects your phones, laptops and TVs.
What you might call each part
| Part | You might call it |
|---|---|
| Outdoor radio | "the antenna", "the thing on the roof", "the dish" |
| PoE adapter | "the small box", "the adapter", "the charger" |
| Router | "the modem", "the Wi-Fi", "the router" |
Things to remember
- No power, no internet. If the PoE adapter or router loses power, your internet stops. A UPS keeps them running through short outages. See power cuts and UPS.
- The radio needs a clear view. A tree that has grown, a new building, or a radio that has been knocked can weaken your connection. Tell us if anything like this happens.
- Wi-Fi is not the internet. Your Wi-Fi only covers your home. You can have strong Wi-Fi but no internet, or good internet but weak Wi-Fi in a far room.
Important
Please don't climb onto the roof, touch or turn the outdoor radio, open any equipment, swap cables between ports, or factory-reset the router. This can make problems worse or put you at risk. If any of this is needed, our team handles it.
