How to run a speed test

Measure your internet speed the fair way, so the result shows your real connection speed.

Updated 29 October 2026

A speed test shows how fast your internet is right now. Done the wrong way, a good connection can look slow, so follow these steps.

Quick check in the app

Open the SkyPro Internet app and tap the Usage tab. Live traffic shows the download and upload speed reaching your line.

Run a fair speed test

  1. Get close to the router. The best test is a laptop plugged into the router with a cable. Next best is a phone or laptop 1–2 metres from the router, on the 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
  2. Stop other use. Pause downloads, updates, streaming and video calls on every device in the home.
  3. Open a speed test website or app in your browser.
  4. Run it three times and note the middle result.
  5. Write down the download, upload and ping numbers.

What the numbers mean

NumberPlain meaning
Download (Mbps)How fast things come to you: videos, web pages, downloads. Bigger is faster
Upload (Mbps)How fast you send things: video calls, uploading files
Ping (ms)How quickly your connection responds. Smaller is better, and it matters for gaming and calls

Good to know

Plan speeds are "up to" speeds. A test over Wi-Fi will usually show a little less than your plan. Check your plan speed on the plans page.
