How to keep your Wi-Fi secure
Simple habits that stop strangers using your Wi-Fi and keep your home network safe.
Your Wi-Fi password is what keeps strangers off your connection. A weak or widely shared password can slow your internet down and put your devices at risk.
Use a strong Wi-Fi password
- At least 12 characters. A short phrase is easy to remember and hard to guess, for example three unrelated words with a number.
- Don't use your phone number, your name, "12345678" or "password".
- If you think too many people know your password, change it. See how to change your Wi-Fi password.
Share it carefully
- Only give your Wi-Fi password to people you trust.
- For visitors and staff, ask us about a separate guest Wi-Fi network, so they don't need your main password. This is especially useful for businesses.
Leave the security settings to us
When we set up your router, our technicians use secure settings, such as WPA2 or WPA3 Wi-Fi security. Please don't change router settings or reset the router to factory settings yourself; it can remove this protection and take you offline. See router settings and resets.
Important
Never connect your router with no password ("open" Wi-Fi). Anyone nearby could use your connection.
Think someone is using your Wi-Fi?
Signs include your internet feeling slower than usual, or unknown devices on your network. Read someone is using my Wi-Fi and ask us to change your password.
Protect your SkyPro Internet account too
- Use a strong password for the app and portal, different from your Wi-Fi password.
- Never share your password, PIN or OTP. See never share your OTP, PIN or password.
