My internet is slow
Find out whether the problem is your connection or your Wi-Fi, and how to speed things up.
Every SkyPro Internet plan is truly unlimited, and we never slow you down for using a lot. When the internet feels slow, it's usually Wi-Fi, a busy network at home, or a fault we can check.
1. Test close to the router
- Stand 1–2 metres from the router, on the 5 GHz Wi-Fi if you have it.
- Pause downloads, updates and video on other devices.
- Run a speed test. See How to run a speed test.
You can also open the Usage tab in the SkyPro Internet app to see the live download and upload speed reaching your line.
2. Read the result
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fast near the router, slow in other rooms | Wi-Fi coverage. See Weak Wi-Fi in some rooms |
| Slow even near the router | Possibly a connection problem. Go to step 3 |
| Fast sometimes, slow in the evening | Many people or devices using it at once. See below |
3. Restart and test again
- Unplug the small box near the socket (the PoE adapter) and the router.
- Wait 30 seconds, then plug both back in.
- Wait 2–3 minutes and test again near the router.
Common reasons for slow speed
- Distance and walls: Wi-Fi gets weaker far from the router.
- The 2.4 GHz band: it's slower than 5 GHz. See 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz.
- Lots of devices at once: streaming on several TVs, video calls and big downloads all share your plan's speed.
- Your plan: if your home has grown, a faster plan may suit you better. See Change your plan.
Good to know
Plan speeds are "up to" speeds: the maximum your line delivers. Speeds on Wi-Fi are usually a bit lower.
